During December of 2014, President Obama signed an Executive Order which initiated a Task Force on 21 st Century Policing. The task force was directed by the Executive Order to “identify the best means to provide an effective partnership between law enforcement and local communities that reduces crime and increases trust”. The Task Force delivered a final report during May of 2015. This report included recommendations and action items.
In response to this report, the Massachusetts Chief of Police Association along with the Massachusetts Major City Chiefs established a working group to study the report. This working group issued a position paper during September of 2015. The position paper provides a framework which examines where Massachusetts police practices align with recommendations and to what degree of effectiveness. The position paper also examines where further efforts can be aimed to better achieve the recommendations of the Task Force. The position paper can be viewed below.
